🌐 Data Privacy Day 2026: Upholding the Fundamental Right to Personal Data Protection
On this Data Privacy Day 2026, I underscore the paramount importance of protecting personal data as a fundamental human right. Data Privacy Day 2026, an initiative originally initiated by the Council of Europe commemorating the signing of Convention 108, the Council of Europe’s first binding international treaty on data privacy and automated personal data processing now Convention 108+, emphasizes educational and awareness-raising activities that equip individuals, organizations, and policymakers with essential knowledge to mitigate risks, implement robust safeguards, and promote privacy-centric practices. Through seminars, policy forums, lectures, training, informal chats and collaborative initiatives, these efforts cultivate a global commitment to data protection.
In view of evolving frameworks such as Mexico’s Federal Law on Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties (LFPDPPP), comprehensive guidance remains indispensable. Accordingly, I am pleased to promote the forthcoming edition of my authoritative publication, Privacy and Data Protection Law in Mexico, a monograph published by Wolters Kluwer which is part of the series Privacy and Technology Law of the International Enciclopaedia of Laws (IEL). This second upcoming edition will incorporate recent legal advancements to support compliance and strategic decision-making in the evolving field of data privacy in Mexico.
